Kevin Hansen
Kevin Hansen works at the Integration of media, science, the environment and human development, summarized by the tagline: The Most Good for the Most Life. He is an environmentalist, businessman, filmmaker, public speaker and inventor. His knowledge of the environment comes in part from personal experience. As a child, Kevin lived in Santa Barbara, California during the aftereffects of the major oil spills and wildfires of the 1960s, and near the Lake Erie fish kills and incendiary Cuyahoga River of Cleveland in the 1970s. He was a participant in the first Earth Day in 1970 at age ten (he still has the cloth poster he made for that first Earth Day!). He won back-to-back National Science Foundation scholarships for environmental research in Alaska at ages 18 and 19. He graduated with Cum Laude honors (ranked first in his major) with BS and MS degrees emphasizing environmental geophysics and hydrogeology. Professionally, for the past 27 years Kevin has worked as a Director/owner or senior manager on environmental and resource development projects throughout the U.S. and internationally, and is now also a filmmaker, Green Designer and Web media consultant.
Kevin is the producer of more than 70 short documentaries, many shown on PierreTerre.com® where he is CEO, incorporating wisdom-areas such as environmental, peace, sustainability, and human-development themes – a site with more than 100,000 views/month, and formerly served as Media Director for the Project for Nuclear Awareness in Philadelphia.
The most recent collaborative film with diplomat Dr. Craig Eisendrath and filmmaker Bunker Seyfert was State of the Union 2008 (stateoftheunion2008.com), a film that has received 265,000 online viewers as it charts a new path forward for America, through a realistic if hypothetical new Presidential State of the Union Address to Congress.
Kevin is widely traveled in India, Mexico and several other nations, where the interwoven pressures of human needs, environmental degradation and resource depletion are starkly evident. These have been a powerful inspiration for filmmaking on PierreTerre.com.
Kevin is a LEED Accredited Professional, a registered Professional Geologist, has one patent awarded (U.S. Patent #5,262,065) and holds U.S. Trademark Registration for his Pierre Terre characterization.
Kevin is an organizer of positive environmental action by seeking integrated human development through responsible sustainable development. Kevin's experience has included water supply development in arid Southwestern Taiwan, Brownfields urban redevelopment projects, Green design projects, pollution remediation across Mexico, and natural resource protection projects in 17 states and 6 countries. Kevin's work has brought him in contact with some of the top scientists researching global change, and with the leaders of industry dealing with the day-to-day issues of running a profitable company. At the same time, he has been a Green activist working with grassroots environmentalists and social change advocates in the Philadelphia region.
