Professor Leo Burke of the University of Notre Dame describes the commons and the benefits of a commons viewpoint in this interview recorded in Berlin, Germany at the commons conference sponsored by the Heinrich Boll Stiftung (Heinrich Boll Foundation) in late 2010.

Students interested in the commons should also read the following article about Professor Burke by another well-know commons expert, Jay Walljasper:

A World that Works for Everyone

You would expect Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business to focus its teaching on making profits from the world as it is instead of asking students to explore how to fundamentally change it.

Becoming Human Again: Occupy Wall Street and the Restoration of Caring - #Commons

The Occupy Wall Street protests have uncovered what we had refused to see, and asked us to re-look at what had been taken for granted:

We have a good world when we take care of each other, recognize our interdependence, and correct the injustices that erode the fundamental goodness of our society.

Filmed in Late October 2011, we found so many extraordinarily articulate Occupy Wall Street-ers who were willing to say what needed to be said: that we are better when we do not allow a tiny few to degrade the quality of life for many.

Kuan Yin's 'Prayer for the Abuser'

We do not often hear of such compassion that there is prayer for the one who has abused others.

Yet many make such prayers. After an attrocity, praying for the well-being and healing of an abuser can be a act of supreme love. So when facing ghastly crimes that so often cause anger, Kuan Yin's 'Prayer for the Abuser' recalls for us the source of so much of the pain within the one causing damage - and askes for forgiveness.

Jonathan Granoff submitted this prayer for us to remember

We met Rhetta Morgan at the Common Ground services in Bala Cynwyd, near Philadelphia.

She is truly an instrument of love, bringing and singing a new vision for human relationships, healing and devotion. Rhetta has the remarkable ability to sing a-Capella, a vision of the future that is so moving that audiences are brought to tears - as we have been.

Please experience a corner of this remarkable woman's presence.

Think Like A Forest

In the forest there is no such thing as garbage! Everything works together without harming anybody.  They find ways to get along because they need each other.  Pierre talks about how people can learn to think like a forest.

When we think like a forest, we seen many things newly. We see that waste does not exist, we can make our own food, and we can take only what we need - no more. We see that all living things have a right to live their lives, too. We see how to live together, and we see how to run a business - all by thinking like a forest.

There is a restoration happening everywhere. Pierre invites you to action for your highest aspirations for a better world. In the affairs of humanity there is a tide of possibility, seen in places like the Global Marshall Plan, the Millennium Promise, and Green Design.

May you act now for the purpose of a new common ground with all people, goodwill towards all life, and the better world we have always dreamed of.
